About Prairie Coast Art
Prairie Coast Art is my online gallery. An outlet for the creative pursuits.
My name is Diana and I was born and raised in the central plains of USA. I've studied painting since I was 15 years old — oil, watercolor, then acrylic.
I did some clay sculpting by age 20. Career moves have taken me to graphics design, print, then in 1996 to web design. Then, in 2004 I tried the potter's wheel again and loved the clay!
I think what I love about
the clay is
... the Earth.. hands... fire. It's physically challenging to make the clay do what you want it to do. Then the glazing process is another beast of a challenge. Glazes can run all over the place and make the pot literally stick to the kiln shelf. But most usually, after a lot of practice (thank you Simon Leach), it may just be... ooh I like that!
I also love the fact that pottery is functional!! You can eat your soup from it!! Drink your coffee from it. It's so fun to take home a piece from the kiln and start using it.
Recently I have added Dichroic fused glass jewelry to the online gallery. Another kiln fired art form using multiple colors, and is wearable art!
The logo

One of my grandfathers came here in a covered wagon as a child when it was still Native American territory. I have a photo of the great-grands in a frame just like the logo.
The painting in my logo is an original acrylic painting (by myself) in my first sail boat. My idea for the logo came from our society's riveting focus on the west and east coast. Therefore... you guessed it... The Prairie Coast. This came as an idea simply from the sailing, the family, and the geographical location. It's also copyrighted and is a registered trade name.
